The province of Almería enjoys an excellent weather, not in vain it is the European city with the most hours of sunshine a year and least precipitations. Its most notable feature is the clear sky and light intensity.

The average annual temperature is 18,7C, reaching more than 30 ° C in the hottest summer months. Being a coastal city, the wind chill can be much higher, depending on the humidity. The water temperature in winter is warmer than the air.

The city of Almeria is situated in one of the windiest areas of the peninsula, so the East wind or West wind will be the only climatological drawback to tourists. Wind gusts can exceed 130 km / h in any season. On the coast the winds blow wildy without geographic barriers, whether the East wind that usually raises the temperature a few degrees, or the West wind that refreshes the days. The months with less wind are: January, July, August, October and November. In February, March and especially April, the wind usually blows harder.

Almeria has scarce precipitations, Cabo de Gata being the least rainy place in Spain. By its extreme aridity, the surrounding landscape of the city of Almería is desert, although far away the mountains of Gádor and Alhamilla can be seen. However, the whole province offers a great variety of landscapes: the snowy peaks of Sierra Nevada Almeria, Cabo de Gata Natural Park and Tabernas desert. This last is the only arid desert in Europe and in it many westerns were filmed in the 60s and 70s It presents an interesting typical desert flora like prickly pears, pitas and palm trees.

Main climate types in Almeria are:

Inframediterráneo or Iranian-mediterranean: low coastal areas of Almeria, characterized by absence of frost and a few precipitations.

Thermomediterranean 400-500 to 800-900 meters, characterized by a few but sufficient precipitations to maintain green zones.

Mesomediterranean or average or typical Mediterranean (800-900 to 1220-1300 m), characterized by the Mediterranean oak forest (although they appear in others), hackberry and broom.

Supramediterranean (1200-1300 to 1600-1800), recognized by the extent of frost days that occur throughout the year.

Oromediterranean, mountain peaks over 1800 meters, where the ground is frozen for a few months each year.
